Industry Background: 

As oil drilling platforms use DC motors, which are AC-DC rectifiers, they generate a lot of harmonics and reactive power during operation, and the power factor varies between 0.4 and 0.8. The drilling depth and rock thickness cause frequent changes in grid harmonics and reactive power. The system has prominent power quality issues, harmonics affect the safe operation of other power equipment, and reactive power seriously affects the efficiency of generator sets, resulting in high energy consumption.


Management ideas: 


Use a combination of active and passive methods to manage harmonics and compensate for reactive power. Design corresponding filter compensation branches according to the high-order harmonic content to absorb harmonic pollution, compensate the power factor to above 0.95, and achieve a harmonic filtering rate of more than 70%, thereby improving equipment efficiency, reducing generator reactive power output, and improving drilling energy efficiency.


Site description:


The project is a drilling platform 2# drilling platform, using 10 360KVA transformers. The load impact of the drilling rig varies greatly, and the harmonics affect the unstable operation of other equipment. The power factor is 0.60 on average. After testing, the 5th, 7th, and 11th harmonics exceeded the standard. Our company designed the scheme according to the load data and determined the following scheme:


Solution:

        Active plus passive dynamic filtering compensation was adopted on site. A set of harmonic control and reactive power compensation devices were installed on the 600V bus side. The XHTSF power quality comprehensive control device was used to control harmonics and quickly compensate reactive power. The power factor reached 0.95. The energy efficiency ratio of the power generation equipment was improved. (Outdoor container type was used on site for easy transfer)
